The Norwalk High School Alumni Association: Who We Are

History

The Norwalk High School Alumni Association was founded by a group of alumni in 1994 for the purpose of honoring distinguished graduates of Norwalk High. The association has accomplished its initial goal, honoring noted alumni. The Alumni Association has enlarged its objectives over the years by adding a Teacher Honor Roll in 2000, where dedicated teachers, all graduates of Norwalk High, have been inducted, and a scholarship program which annually awards scholarship assistance to deserving graduates

What We Do

In addition, throughout the year there are opportunities for social gatherings and reunions with former schoolmates and friends with three free socials: a wine and cheese party in the spring when we honor outstanding teachers, a picnic in the summer and, to wrap up the year, a Christmas party in December. In the autumn the main event, the annual Wall of Honor dinner, is held when our distinguished graduates are introduced. A quarterly Newsletter keeps members abreast of the activities of the NHSAA.

Who We Are

The Norwalk High School Alumni Association is an organization of former attendees of NHS spanning from the earliest days of the school, right up to this year’s graduates. Associate members, interested people who did not attend Norwalk High, may join as well, without the privilege of voting. All that is required to become a member is one year of attendance and completion of the application form stating name, address, class, phone, and e-mail along with a payment of the $10.00 annual membership dues.

Wall of Honor

Through an agreement with school administrators, a Wall of Honor was established in a prominent section of the NHS main lobby. Handsome plaques display a portrait and brief biography of each honoree; they are arranged for viewing by visitors and as motivation and inspiration for today’s students.

The plaques honor winners of Nobel and Pulitzer Prizes, war heroes, sports figures, Hall of Famers, authors, respected medical professionals, learned educators, accomplished artists, noted industrialists, prominent lawyers, politicians, and leaders from all walks of life. An envious roster for any public educational institution, these alumni have brought fame and fortune to themselves, to their Alma Mater, and to the community as a whole.  For more information go to the Wall of Honor page. If you would like a reservation form, click here.

Scholarship Foundation

The Norwalk High School Scholarship Foundation, certified under IRS (c) (3), has been established exclusively for awards to deserving NHS seniors, to assist them in their quest for higher education, fame, and fortune.

Officers and Executive Committee

The Officers and Executive Committee of the NHSAA, elected annually at its annual meeting, invite all interested persons to become members, to take active part in all of its activities, or to participate solely in assisting with one of its events. Meetings are held monthly on the first Wednesday in City Hall. Often, members are willing to work on special projects without responsibility for attending meetings. The Alumni Association welcomes these members who take some of the work of running the organization from the shoulders of the Executive Committee.

New Members and Contributors

We would welcome new members, and we solicit contributions to the NHS Scholarship Foundation. You can find an application by clicking here. And, if you would like copies of our brochure, which outlines the names of our Wall of Honor and Teacher Honor Roll members, please send your name and address to Norwalk High School Alumni Association, PO Box 493, Norwalk, CT 06852-0493.
