Wall of Honor Dinner 2006
Our newest members inducted into the NHSAA Wall of Honor at Continental Manor on Sunday, October 1st, are pictured above with President Glenn Iannaccone. Left to right: Robert S. "Moose" Daniels, Class of 1939; Dr. Edward Tarlov who accepted the honor for his deceased father, Dr. Isadore M. Tarlov, Class of 1922; Jacqui Vines, Class of 1977; Richard Madey, Class of 1939, Dr. Albert V. Burke, Class of 1946 and President Iannaccone.
Jacqui Vines, one of this year's honorees, is shown above with Mr. and Mrs. Don Foust, who sheltered her during her high school years as foster parents. Jacqui paid great tribute to her foster parents for helping her to find her way, a prelude to her success as an executive of Cox Communications in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
During the ceremonies at Continental Manor on October 1st when five distinguished alumni of Norwalk High School were added to the Wall of Honor, including Richard Madey, Class of 1939, Mr. Madey's wife Betty decided to pen a spontaneous poem to honor the occasion. She put together this poem in a little more than two hours, while most of us were enjoying dinner. This is her tribute to the occasion: A GREAT MOMENT IN TIMEI arrived with one expectation; To meet the Honorees of today And I’m overwhelmed by the throngs who’ve gathered And respect to the honored you pay.
From humble beginnings I wonder what motivates and drives one on to achievement and today an honor and just how simple seeds are sown.
I’ve listened through years of memory About school years at Norwalk High And early years in East Norwalk Of a time passed in the blink of an eye.
I had the privilege of attending a reunion That marked sixty years for one class; We gathered and had a great time And denied the looking-glass.
The years of course they change us Mostly on the surface you see, But we remain the basic driven If that’s what we’re meant to be.
In your mind please advance and fast forward For today in twenty 06 Five will be given the honor And their names on the WALL will be fixed.
The Honorees are a telling example Of how school and learning in sync Produced a lifetime of successful achievements; You’ve earned this honor we think.
Your honor has become our honor. You’ve brought recognition to Norwalk High. You’re sons and daughters of this great city. You’re stars in the Norwalk sky!
