72 years later, Class of 1937 gets together

NORWALK, By FRANCIS X. FAY JR, Hour Senior Staff Writer
The Norwalk High School combined Classes of February and June of 1937 observed their 72nd anniversary reunion last week when 16 members gathered for lunch at the Shore & Country Club.
Ellen Saabye Kirtland was host to the classes and was assisted in making the arrangements by Marjorie Hammond Johnson.
The two classes were the last to graduate from the "yellow brick building" on West Avenue which served as NHS from 1909 to 1938. The members are in their 90th years, and believe they may be the oldest high school classmates still having annual reunions.
Attending from the June class were Herman Fullin, M. Evelyn Hodge, Angelica Tavella Sargent and Marjorie Wargo Rysz. February class attendees were Maury Cooke Bassler Flack, Virginia Crosby Mahoney, Vera Flynn Trenck, Bessie Guss Room, Rose King, Marjorie Malkin Emmerthal, Carmine and Mafalda Scordo, Walter and Jane Spatta, Johnson and Kirtland.
Joining the 16 classmates were 10 relatives or best friends. The class also remains in touch through newsletters issued each January and August.
